Numeracy warm up

- Set up 3 lines of cones approx 10m apart. Have all the players line up on the middle line of cones facing you, with a line of cones to their left and right.
- Identify to students that one line is ‘odd’ and another line is ‘even’.
- Shout out basic numeracy questions (e.g. 12+3, 15-7, etc). Students have to quickie work out whether the answer is odd or even and then race to that particular line.
- Call out words. Players have to work out if there is an even or odd number of letters in the word e.g. run (3- odd), sprint (6- even), etc.
- Could play on a sport hall floor/rugby pitch. Left is ‘odd’ right is ‘even’ players just run to the correct line. No need to return to the original line each time just call a different sum once they are all in a line together.
