Do not shield your child

Do not shield your childI am seeing more and more in my coaching the incidence of  children breaking down at the end or during the game or even when things do not go “their way”.

Tears are becoming more prevalent. Children are also more entitled and expecting.

Worse, children who expect things to be fair and right and then cannot handle that presumption being wrong – they are getting overwrought at umpires decisions be they right or wrong and this is happening at younger and younger ages.

Resilience is more of an issue – I can see it in my own daughter where I have “protected” her from life’s idiosyncrasies, needless to say it has bitten me on the butt.

I came across this video on youtube and it really resonated with me.

This is a very short video that highlights the issue of being over protective.
