4 kinds of sports participants
This is an overview of the 4 levels of each player – it is the coaches responsibility to attempt to motivate the players to move up the levels.
A player fits into one of these “mindsets” and each player has complete and utter control of all of them.
- Commanders
- Competitors
- Contenders
- Survivors
So what do they mean
Survivors
- A survivor is someone who does just enough to get by.
- He goes through his day and does not maximize his mental capabilities.
- This group loves taking the easy way out.
- The sad part is every organization has at least 1, and believe you me if you are a survivor you are obvious
Contenders
- Someone who is motivated by external factors like playing time, money, fame, or the person he’s going against
- They will only reach their potential if the external motivators are threatened.
- They are extrinsically motivated
Competitors
- Someone who is internally motivated to be his best regardless regardless of the situation.
- His place on the debt chart does not matter. Money does not matter. Fame does not matter.
- He is always trying to absolutely be his best.
- He can’t be swayed because he’s already maxing out his potential.
- He’s got a championship mindset.
Commander
- He basically has all the traits of a competitor with one exception.
- He brings people with him.
Which one are you, what do you need to do to move from 2-3-4
